# Black and Decker Pump Installation

## Tools Needed

Before we start hooking up your pump, you'll need the following tools:

* A Clyr Lite or Clyr Controller
* Black and Decker screen adaptor
* Clyr Black and Decker pump adaptor
* Ethernet or 4-wire copper cable
* A small flathead screwdriver
* A large Phillips screwdriver

## Step 1 - Connect your controller

Before you begin, please make sure you have powered on and connected your Clyr Controller.&#x20;

## Step 2 - Remove screen of Black and Decker pump

RISK OF ELECTROCUTION AND SHOCK - Before proceeding, please turn off the breaker to the pump to disconnect the 120-240VAC power.

Locate the screws on to the screen on top of the Black and Decker pump and remove the screen. Locate the white connector.

## Step 3 - Plug connector into Clyr Black and Decker module

You now need to plug the white connector into the Clyr Black and Decker module. The notch on the top of the white connector should be facing the screw terminals on the Clyr board when plugged in.

## Step 4 - Wire 4-wire cable on pump side

Alright, now it's time to start wiring the Clyr Controller to the pump. In the end, here's what we want to achieve:

In this step, you want to take your ethernet or 4-wire cable and connect wires in the following way. If you have the following wire colors available, please follow this wiring guide:

* Yellow - Connect to B\&D B
* Green - Connect to B\&D A

Wiring is important. It doesn't actually matter what colors you end up using but the colors must match between the pump and Clyr Controller.

## Step 5 - Wiring Clyr Controller

Now its time to make sure the colors match. If you haven't wired any existing equipment to the Clyr controller, it's a good idea to take our first available network using ports A1 and B1.

What are networks?

Per the wiring schematic above, wire up the Clyr Controller so that the A / B wires are wired correctly on the Clyr Controller as they were on the Black and Decker Pump.

SUPER IMPORTANT - Black and Decker Pumps must be the only piece of equipment on their network. Therefore, everything including sensors, salt cells, and other accessories must be on their own network.

## Step 6 - Turn breaker back on

At this point, if the wires are tight and the colors match we're almost ready to add the pump in our app and test it out. Go ahead and turn the breaker back on and then we'll head to the app.

RISK OF ELECTROCUTION AND SHOCK - With the breaker back on and the pump cover still off, please be careful if you go back to the pump and are testing wiring. If you are unsure, please seek help from a certified electrician.

## Step 7 - Add pump in app

You should have already added a Clyr Controller to your pool location in the app at this point. If you haven't check this out first:

If this has been done you can proceed. Go to your pool location and click "Settings"-> "Devices"-> "Add" -> "Pool Equipment". Once you're on the pool equipment page, we'll select a Pump.

Once you select pump, we'll need to configure the Pump.

First, choose a name for the pump. A good default is "Pump" but you may want to call it "main pump" or "filter pump". Next, in the dropdown, **please select Black and Decker** . You can change the default RPM if you please. This RPM is only used if the pump gets in an unknown state. Next, you can choose/set the priming time. Finally, if this pump is your main pool pump, be sure to select "Main Filter Pump"

Next, you'll want to select which network you wired the pump up to. Remember that we screwed our A / B cables into "A1" and "B1", so this is network 1. We will leave it as is, but if you used network 2, you'll need to change the network.

Finally, you shouldn't have to do anything to the address.&#x20;

You're done! Click through the rest of the phone steps and arrive at the final screen.

You can either wait for the Clyr Controller to report back successful communication, or you can skip waiting for this and go test running the pump.

## Step 8 - Test the pump

Now that the pump has been added and the power is on, quickly jump to the home screen, go to schedules, and add a schedule for your pump. After setting a quick schedule, the pump should fire right up, prime, and then run your desired RPM.

## Step 9 - Breaker off and screw on metal back plate

RISK OF ELECTROCUTION AND SHOCK - Please turn off the breaker to the pump when screwing the back plate of the pump back on.

Before putting the screen back of the B\&D pump back on the pump, please turn off the breaker.

## Step 10 - Turn breaker back on

Turn breaker back on and your pump is all set.

## Troubleshooting

1. **I wired everything up but the pump still shows an exclamation mark and says it's not communicating, what can do I do?**

Try this first, sometimes the pump is in a bad state. Turn the breaker off for 60 seconds, then turn it back on.

Second, check to make sure your wiring matches the wiring schematic above?

Third, make sure all your wires and screw terminals are tight. If you've shoved multiple wires into one terminal, it could be that the wires aren't actually touching. Try using ferrules to join the wires together.

Fourth, if all else fails, sometimes the last resort is to try and reattach the screen or iAqualink to ensure that there are no faults/errors that Clyr doesn't detect.&#x20;
